WhyLuna's Eclipse cannot target invisible units, allowing Clinkz to avoid its damage with Skeleton Walk or dilute the random beams with his summoned Skeleton Archers. Furthermore, Strafe grants Clinkz and his skeletons bonus attack range to safely burst Luna down while Infernal Shred pierces through her physical armor.
Luna Counters & Build
Luna is countered by Clinkz, Sniper and Queen of Pain, and performs best against Undying, Anti-Mage and Night Stalker — patch 7.41e, legend–ancient.
Countered by
5These heroes beat Luna more often than their general strength explains.
WhySniper outranges Luna through Keen Scope and Take Aim, allowing him to attack safely outside the effective range of her close-quarters Eclipse and Lunar Orbit. Additionally, Shrapnel's movement slow combined with Headshot and Concussive Grenade knockbacks make it difficult for Luna to close the gap on him in fights.
WhyQueen of Pain can readily use Blink to disengage whenever Luna activates Eclipse, safely avoiding the concentrated magic damage. Furthermore, the Bondage facet allows Queen of Pain to reflect Luna's heavy spell damage from Lucent Beam and Eclipse directly back at her while sustaining through Succubus spell lifesteal.
WhyDrow Ranger effectively keeps Luna at bay using the knockback and silence from Gust alongside the slowing attacks of Frost Arrows, preventing Luna from closing within 325 range to disable Marksmanship. Additionally, Glacier grants Drow bonus attack range and an impassable barrier, allowing her to safely shred Luna with Marksmanship procs that ignore base armor.
WhyOgre Magi secures an early lane advantage against Luna by slowing her with Ignite and punishing trades with Fireblast stuns. As the game progresses, Fire Shield directly mitigates Luna's attack damage from Moon Glaives and Lunar Blessing while retaliating with fireballs. Additionally, Multicast empowers Fireblast and Unrefined Fireblast to repeatedly stun and burst Luna down before she can safely fight around Eclipse.
Strong against
5Luna outperforms against these.
WhyAlthough Luna loses the lane heavily to Undying's early Decay pressure, her advantage arrives later in the game during teamfights. Undying's Tombstone spawns swarms of zombies that provide ideal bounce targets for Luna's Moon Glaives and collisions for Lunar Orbit, instantly wiping the spawns while splashing massive damage onto Undying and his team.
WhyLuna bypasses Anti-Mage's passive magic resistance from Counterspell by delivering massive physical attack damage augmented by Lunar Blessing, Moon Glaives, and Lunar Orbit. While Anti-Mage can use Counterspell to reflect targeted Lucent Beams, it cannot block untargeted abilities like Eclipse or the collision damage from Lunar Orbit. Furthermore, the Moonshield facet grants Luna damage reduction to endure Anti-Mage's direct Mana Break onslaught.
WhyLuna clearly loses the lane to Night Stalker's early night pressure, but her advantage arrives later in the game. When Night Stalker operates at night or uses Dark Ascension, Luna also benefits from the darkness through Lunar Blessing's increased night vision and global bonus attack damage. In later teamfights, Luna outscales him with heavy multi-target damage from Moon Glaives and Eclipse.
WhyLuna's close-range tools punish Riki when he attempts to jump her with Blink Strike. Lunar Orbit damages Riki with rotating glaives whenever he closes in, while Moonshield provides damage reduction against his Backstab burst. Additionally, Lunar Blessing grants extra night vision and Eclipse turns day into night, helping Luna's team contest Riki outside the laning phase.
WhyLuna slightly loses the lane against Void Spirit, but her advantage arrives later in the game as teamfights scale. Void Spirit must jump into close quarters with Astral Step and Dissimilate, placing him directly into the heavy burst of Luna's Eclipse, Lunar Orbit, and bouncing Moon Glaives.
